The name Drozdik, also written Drostik, Drostick, Drozdick and Droszdik, Droszdick when originating from the old German word Drost means Administrator, Governor, somebody who administers a district, community or big land/farm property etc. Drozdik families in Hungary seem to come from Germany originally.

Furthermore, the word drozd means in a number slavic languages a little bird, thus some believe the name came from this word. More likely is that the version of the bird was used as an explanation later because of similar sounding with the old German work 'Drost' as people in slavic speaking countries like Slovakia etc. up to Ukraine, where there are also Drozdik families, did certainly not know about the German word Drost. It is also likely that originally the name was rather written as drost but pronounced as drozd/drosd and therefore was linked to the bird.

Looking into the Drozdiks in Hungary a lot of them can be found in the sources as German speaking families and residing in cities or locations where German communities can be found, even the names of the cities in old maps are multilingual, i.e. written in Hungarian, German and Slovakian as for example Poszony, Pressburg, Bratislava. It is also indicated in some sources that the profession of 'Drozdiks' often was to be an administrator or kind of governor for a certain area, like my ancestors. Some had been exercising this function under the authority of the Habsburg Monarchy as civil servants of the Empire.
